The basic Buddhist theory is, apart from the emptiness of the outside world, the self who is seeking the Truth is itself nonexistent. It is merely a concoction of the senses and the mind - this individual self. Therefore, by constantly applying oneself to understanding the individual self in its depth, it will be discovered the very basis of having an individual self is false.
