Just before his final enlightenment, it is said that the Goddess of Maya called Mara tempted Siddhartha. Mara danced before him in all her charm and promised him everything on earth and heaven, only if he would stop looking for the Truth! So, Buddha was tempted just as once Jesus Christ had been, when Satan had said, "I will give you mastery over all the three worlds if you turn to me.” Gautama, just like Jesus had said, “Get thee behind me Satan", said, “Get thee behind me, Mara."
