Transforming Lives Through Education, Nourishment, and Well-Being

At the Satsang Seva Mission (SSM), our commitment to human welfare is anchored in the belief that true service transcends physical, social, and logistical barriers. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—specifically Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), and Goal 4 (Quality Education)—find expression in our sevas, demonstrating how compassion, community effort, and sustained support can uplift lives across diverse settings.

Manav Seva: Beyond Barriers
Inculcating Emotional Awareness and Inner Alignment in Prison Inmates

The outreach program for prison inmates at Arthur Road Central Jail has recently reached a significant milestone. The weekly Emotional Awareness and Inner Alignment Program has quietly and steadily nurtured the well-being of prison inmates ensuring the fulfilment of their personal wellbeing and empowerment in alignment with UNSDG 3:  Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

A core group of regular practitioners has worked constantly over the past 18 months to maintain a daily individual practice—finding inner steadiness and emotional resilience within a high-stress environment. Moving from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and Advaita Vedanta into a complete study of the Kena Upanishad, inmates have learned to engage in deep self-inquiry. Each weekly session is centered on core meditation practices: Conscious Breathing, Hum Sau, Bhramari Pranayama, and Sakshi Bhav - watching one’s thoughts.

Nurturing Youth at Shelter Homes through Yoga Outreach

Since July 2023, trained volunteers from Bharat Yogavidya Kendra (BYK), an initiative of The Satsang Foundation, have conducted weekly Sunday yoga sessions at Namma Mane (a shelter for girls) and Vallabh Niketan Ashram (a shelter for boys). Gathering an average of 25 girls and 30 boys per session, the outreach focuses on physical strength, emotional balance, and cognitive agility.

Children engage in warm-ups (Sukshma Vyayama), dynamic asanas, brain-coordination exercises, and interactive games like Yoga Asana Charades. Sessions conclude with Pranayama, Shavasana, and sacred chants, imparting both physical vitality and deep peace to children who need it most.

Restoring Dignity through Nourishment

Meals are offered through a multi-modal paradigm across multiple locations, assuring food security in tandem with UNSDG 2: Zero Hunger. The first level comprises daily meals cooked at Madhu Ki Rasoi, our community kitchen in Mathura-Vrindavan and the Madanapalle Ashram. The assurance of fixed meals during the day brings great comfort to those for whom even a single meal is out of reach: iItinerant sadhus, travellers, pilgrims, and daily wage workers at several locations at Mathura-Vrindavan. The portals of the in-house Madhu Ki Rasoi in the Madanapalle Ashram welcome visitors, guests, residents, and staff providing three meals through the day while the children at The Satsang Vidyalaya, Madanapalle are served with well-planned nutritious meals and refreshments to boost to their often meagre diet, ensuring their immediate physical growth and long-term well-being.

Food security is also assured through daily annadaanam sevas coupled with supplements such as eggs, leafy vegetables, and millets for urban marginalized groups and children living in remote, indigenous settlements where nutritional deficiencies are highly prevalent. The seva locations encompass Mumbai and Kerala as well as our overseas centre in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Following suit with a weekly meal plan, cooked meals are offered at Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru to residents of shelter homes, daily wage workers, gig workers, autorickshaw and cab drivers, and local residents ensuring continual support and moments of solace on a busy work day.

The next circle of support comprises monthly dry rations and nutritional supplements at homes Bengaluru, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, and Warangal for children, the differently-abled, and seniors who require constant care and consistent meals for holistic wellbeing.

Overcoming Barriers of Location
Building a Sanctuary of Learning in Remote Regions

Aligning with UNSDG 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, children in remote tribal settlements in Kerala and Maharashtra are being supported with educational material and infrastructure support to ensure access to basic education and holistic learning.

For over 500 children studying in six lower primary schools in Attapadi, Palakkad District the access to scholastic material ensures continued learning and better prospects in the face of daunting socio-economic challenges.

In the remote, roadless tribal hamlet of Dapurmal (Thane District, Maharashtra), 30 families were faced with a severe crisis: their local primary school was dilapidated and dangerous, often infested with snakes and scorpions. Undeterred by a daily 2 km walk, the children's eagerness to learn inspired Satsang Seva Mission volunteers to act in concert with the local community in early April 2026.

Overcoming severe logistical hurdles - lack of road access and facing scorching summer heat - the local community manually carried pre-painted galvanized iron (PPGI) sheets and steel frameworks over 6 kilometers of mountainous terrain. Despite electricity disruptions and material delays, two permanent, weather-proof, illuminated classrooms were successfully completed in July 2026.

During the inaugural interaction, the bright smiles and unalloyed joy of the children embodied the vision of Sri M: "Education helps to flower the mind. Let them explore and find out for themselves."
