The Satsang Seva Mission: Nourishing our Communities, Offering Care and Dignity

Amidst the relentless bustle of daily life, it is easy to overlook marginalized groups who keep our cities moving: daily wage earners waiting eagerly for their next assignment; autorickshaw and cab drivers navigating traffic blocks; gig workers rushing off to ensure the deliveries are made on time. While the quiet ones such as children, seniors, and the differently-abled at shelter homes are often relegated to the background.

Through annadaanam seva, educational programs, medical camps, and moments of genuine companionship, volunteers offer nourishment and a space of respite where everyone feels cared for.

Here is a look at how sevas touched the lives of recipients across different locations over the past month as part of the ongoing support programs.

Nurturing Residents of Support Homes

Vallabh Niketan Ashram, Bengaluru: The young residents and seniors of this home are supported with daily milk and monthly dry rations, offering long-term nutritional security. Every Sunday, the youngsters partake of a special breakfast, always taking care to serve the elders first in their quarters. This inter-generational nurture continues to sustain a stable environment for all residents.

Apna Ghar, Bhopal: Alongside providing essential rations, volunteers brought music and companionship to the differently-abled residents sheltered at this home. A volunteer played the harmonica, inspiring residents to sing and dance, transforming a simple visit into a joyful celebration of human connection.

Sukarma Vikasa Kendram, Ernakulam: The celebratory spirit of seva resounded at a residential rehabilitation center for differently-abled men as volunteers shared prayers, bhajans, and a special meal while offering monthly ration supplies. This seva highlighted the incredible creativity of the residents as they proudly displayed their handmade artwork and crafts.

Bal Snehalay, Mumbai: An enriching month unfolded for all the 20 children sheltered at Bal Snehalay, as volunteers curated a series of enriching activities for them. Crucial support towards school fees ensured continued education for the group. The children also enjoyed a festive Bal Mahotsav complete with sports medals, birthday celebrations, art sessions, and yoga. Online phonics and speech practice classes through the preceding weeks have also helped build confidence, while interactive workshops have helped inculcate sustainable practices such as waste segregation.

Shrikrishna Shantiniketan Women Shelter Home, Nagpur: Essential dry grain supplies continue to ensure the daily nutritional needs of a small group of 15 women, most of whom are differently abled and require sustained care.

Supporting Children across Municipal and Traditional Schools

Subhedar Ramji Ambedkar Vidyalaya, Dahisar (Mumbai): Primary students participated in engaging educational awareness sessions. Through storytelling, they explored personal hygiene, built foundational English skills across reading and writing activities. Guided meditation sessions designed to bring calmness and focus formed the crucial grounding activity of this learning support paradigm which continues to enthuse the children of this municipal school.

Bhakti Vedant Vidyabhavan Gurukul, Murbad (Mumbai): Dedicated volunteers provided consistent academic support, conducting daily online English classes for Grade 10 children through the week. This ongoing initiative has helped the young Vedic scholars of the Gurukul to hone their skills in English while working on their core subjects.

Utkarsh Vidyalaya & Nutan Bharat Vidyalaya, Nagpur: Bringing joy to young learners, volunteers distributed nutritious peanut chikki, amaranth (rajgira) ladoos, and makhana to 700 primary students at Utkarsh Vidyalaya. The seva extended to the cows at the gaushala managed by the school management as volunteers cleaned the stalls and fed the cows.

At Nutan Bharat Vidyalaya, a residential school for children hailing from farming families, a wholesome evening dinner was offered to over 130 children. Stationery and academic supplies ensured educational support for all the children.

Reaching Daily Wage Workers, Commuters, and Caregivers of Patients

Sector 62, Gurugram: Adapting to sudden shifts when local laborers were relocated, the volunteers at Gurugram ensured that the hungry workers didn't miss their meal. Serving 850 individuals during the period of Pitru Paksh, and over 800 during the subsequent fortnight, volunteers served warm meals and cool water. The recipients found comfort eating together under the shade of trees and makeshift food counters.

Model Town, Delhi: On the final day of Pitru Paksh, residents from impoverished neighborhoods, elderly individuals seeking support, and roadside transport workers (bus and auto drivers, and goods vehicle laborers) were welcomed with a warm meal served under a canopy, and providing much-needed respite on a scorching day.

Byculla, Chunabhatti, Lokhandwala, and Nalasopara, Mumbai: The cadence of daily and weekly meals continued to sustain hungry commuters, daily wage workers, local residents, and passers-by.

NIMS Hospital, Hyderabad: Families and caregivers of patients, housekeeping staff, security guards, and auto drivers stationed at a busy hospital entrance in the heart of Hyderabad, were offered individual biodegradable meal boxes filled with freshly-prepared rice and curry. Supplemented with fruit and buttermilk, recipients huddled together for a nourishing meal before heading back to the hospital or on their way ahead to their next stop.

Lakshmi Puram & Lalbagh West Gate, Bengaluru: Pavement dwellers and daily wage workers continued to receive their steady weekly rhythm of care with filling meals.

Providing Comprehensive Health Care to Rural Populace, Nagpur

Patients in rural areas with limited accessibility to regular healthcare and resources continued to be supported with the medical outreach offered at Nagpur in collaboration with Shalinitai Meghe Hospital. During the monthly multi-specialty medical camp held at Champa Village, specialists provided consultations to over 236 patients across General Medicine, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Dentistry, and Ophthalmology. Alongside blood pressure and sugar screenings, prescribed medications were given on the spot at no cost. Over 39 patients were successfully referred for advanced treatment at Shalinitai Meghe Hospital.

Every shared meal, dry ration kit, medical check-up, and classroom session carries a singular message: Each and every recipient matters.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all volunteers and supporters who continue to sustain these sevas.
