Kundalini is considered by the tantras as the manifestation in the human being of the infinite supreme energy. This energy called Parashakthi or Bhavani is said to reside in potent form, not kinetic, not active but an inactive form at the base of the spinal cord, of all human beings – coiled like a spring. In the tantric symbology it is shown as a snake turned three and a half times around itself and waiting to be awakened by the spiritual practitioner.
