An interesting fact is all of Buddha's work was in the Pali language, which was the local language at that time. He was, consciously or unconsciously, trying to rise above the caste system where wisdom was solely in the hands of the Brahmins, the priestly class. Things had come to such a pass that the priestly class kept the wisdom of the Vedas to themselves and considered others to be unqualified to understand them. Buddha rebelled against that.
