There are many meanings of the word Shivam. One of them is auspiciousness. Wherever there is auspiciousness, there is Shivam. Beauty is Shivam. Absolute purity is Shivam. Light is Shivam. Shivam is also used as a substitute word for Anandam. When you experience the small joys of life, that too is Shivam. When you ultimately experience the bliss of your inner being, that is also Shivam. It is all-pervading. It is in order to find that ultimate Shivam, that we go through the rigmarole of life. You may call it Narayana; it doesn’t matter. But when I say Shivam, I am referring to the essence of being - completely pure.
