The mind does not like to be quiet and calm ever or be in a vacuum. There is no way to suddenly tell the mind to not be engaged. You cannot do it. So engage it in something interior so that it doesn't get time or the opportunity to engage with the outside world, at least for a short while. There are two ways - Naama Smarana and Mantra Japa.
