When the mind is calm and quiet, there is no meditator or the meditated upon. That's the take-off point, or the tarmac from which you take off to higher levels of consciousness. It’s not the end, because there are many layers. Unless that state is created, it’s not possible to ascend to the higher levels, however we may chant or meditate.
