The word Guru is made of two syllables 'gu' and 'ru'. ‘Gu’ means that which is hidden or which is not exposed and 'ru' is the short form of Rudra who is the destroyer of darkness or bondage or ignorance. So the Guru is one who leads you to the light, or who destroys ignorance and clears the cobwebs.
