A long-cherished dream has blossomed at the Sri Guru Babaji Temple, Nooranad with the establishment of a gaushala and the arrival of two Punganur cows—the honored first residents of this sacred sanctuary. Safely entrusted to their dedicated caretaker, their arrival marks the auspicious beginnings of Gau Seva on the premises.
The Heart of the Initiative: Honoring our Tradition
At Babaji Temple, Gauseva (the selfless service of cows) is an offering of seva and a conscious step toward building a sustainable ecosystem. Caring for Kamadhenu—the sacred cow—is deeply woven into the tapestry of Indian spiritual tradition. By welcoming native cattle to Sri Guru Hills, the temple honors these ancient values, fostering a living space where spiritual devotion and reverence for nature walk hand in hand.
Why the Punganur Breed?
Originating from the Punganur region of Andhra Pradesh, the Punganur is one of India’s indigenous cattle breeds—and one of the smallest humped breeds in the entire world.
Chosen thoughtfully to align with our vision of native cattle conservation and biodiversity, Punganur cows are renowned for their gentle temperament and resilience.
Care and Thoughtful Stewardship
To ensure our new residents thrive, a holistic plan for their daily care and shelter is already in motion with a dedicated caretaker who will ensure their safety, care, and well-being. They will enjoy grazing freely across the temple campus, complemented by green fodder and balanced feed to meet all their nutritional needs. Daily cleaning routines, hygienic living conditions, and regular veterinary check-ups have been established.While currently resting safely in a comfortable temporary shelter, plans for a permanent, custom-built dedicated cowshed are underway to ensure that they have their own space.
Sacred Offerings and Sustainable Practices
As our young cows grow and mature, their high-quality milk will be reserved exclusively for temple rituals and sacred offerings (Abhishekam). The cow dung and slurry will be carefully processed into enriched, organic bio-mineral manure in line with our commitment to environmental sustainability.. This bio-mineral manure will nourish the temple’s lush gardens, paving the way for a zero-waste, eco-friendly campus.
